Kids Group Music Lessons in Hampton: Ages 5 to 7

Group music classes for kids at Aurea Music Studio are small, play-based classes for children aged 5 to 7. In our children's group music lessons, kids clap and move to rhythms, play simple parts together on piano, learn the first steps of reading music and finish with a short performance. Group music lessons for kids run in our Hampton studio near Hampton Station, with three to six students in each class so every child is heard.

What Happens in a Kids Group Music Class

We use games, movement and mini-ensembles to keep children listening and moving. In a typical class, kids:

Classes often end with a short performance or a rhythm challenge, so children finish on something they can show their family.

Why Ages 5 to 7?

By five, most children can follow a few steps at a time, keep a simple rhythm and stay with an activity for a whole class. By seven, many are ready to read notation and to start an instrument one-to-one. Group classes sit in between. Children practise playing and listening with others, and they find out what they enjoy before choosing an instrument.

Is My Child Ready?

  • Your child does not need to read music or have played an instrument.
  • They should be able to follow short instructions and be happy to take part with other children.
  • Shy children are welcome. A trial lesson lets them meet the teacher and try a class before you commit.

From Group Class to Instrument Lessons

Many children move on to private lessons once they know which instrument they like, and our teachers can suggest a first instrument after a few classes. The usual next steps are piano lessons in Hampton, violin lessons in Hampton, guitar lessons in Hampton or singing lessons in Hampton.

Younger Than 5? Toddler, Kindy and Preschool Music

Our group classes start at age 5, so we do not run toddler, kindy or preschool classes at the moment. When your child is old enough, they are welcome to join a group class.

Group Classes or Private Lessons?

Group classes suit children who learn well with friends and want a gentle start. Private lessons suit children who want one-to-one attention or a faster pace. Private lessons start from $45 to $55 per 30-minute lesson. Many families do both. See all of our private, group and online lesson formats.
